Parade in a small town

On Saturday I went to the Christmas Parade in Colonial Beach. This was the second time that I had photographed this particular yearly event. I have come to like photographing the people of the town and the best time to do so is during a public event.

It was a drizzly damp gray day so it was fortunate that the entire parade lasted only about 15 minutes. The people in the parade were throwing candy to the kids and they would scramble into the street to pick up as much as they could. We had a parade like this every year when I was a child. It would go right down the street in front of my apartment building. Ours was in a larger town so it was a bigger parade. Ours always had marching bands from the local schools. I wonder why they don't do that in Colonial Beach.
